Roofline lighting is a color matched aluminum channel with LEDs set into it, fastened along the roof edge and left there. That channel is doing two things, holding the diodes and keeping them out of sight. Because it matches the trim, it disappears into the roof edge in daylight.

Every plan starts with the primary roof edge, and grows from there. Gables, peaks, porch edges, posts and second story lines are all candidates, though a good plan leaves some of them dark.
